Emergency Clinic – first point of contact for patients
In May 2024, the ICRC opened an Emergency Hospital in Rafah in the Gaza Strip together with the GRC and 13 other Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. What was planned as a temporary measure has now been operating for two years.
A sign at the entrance points out the ban on weapons. Red Cross medical facilities are neutral spaces. Weapons of any kind are prohibited throughout the entire site — to protect patients, family members and staff.
You are now entering the Emergency Clinic, which can also be deployed modularly, independently of the Red Cross Emergency Hospital. This is where patients are registered, triaged and assigned for further treatment.
