Catering for patients and staff
For the GRC Emergency Hospital, self-sufficiency also means providing its own catering. The kitchen serves meals to inpatients, their families and the entire staff — taking cultural and medical dietary requirements into account.
Adequate, nutritious food is a direct medical factor: it influences how long recovery takes and when patients are fit for discharge. At the Emergency Hospital in Rafah, the lack of nutritious foods, such as chicken and eggs, delays recovery — both during the stay and after discharge.
Like all modules of the GRC Emergency Hospital, the kitchen is designed to operate self-sufficiently in the first weeks of deployment.
