Water production for hospital operations
WASH stands for water, sanitation and hygiene — three basic prerequisites without which hospital operations are not possible. This station covers the sanitary facilities for patients and their families, separate from the staff facilities at Station 8.
Clean water is needed not only for drinking, but also for sterilisation, wound care, cleaning and the operation of sanitary facilities. The GRC Emergency Hospital produces its own drinking water — using reverse osmosis units that can be seen at the external Water Treatment station.
At the Red Cross Emergency Hospital in Rafah, around 5,000 litres of drinking water are produced on site every day. When other Red Cross sites in Rafah face shortages, water is transported to them as well.
