Diagnostic imaging in the Emergency Hospital
X-ray imaging is an indispensable tool for diagnostics in a Red Cross Emergency Hospital — particularly for fractures, shrapnel injuries and unclear findings. Imaging supports the treating doctors in deciding whether surgery is necessary and how it must be planned.
The X-ray unit is part of the basic equipment of the GRC Emergency Hospital and, like all modules, can be set up and put into operation within a few days. For the Red Cross Emergency Hospital in Rafah, the X-ray equipment was provided by the Finnish Red Cross.
In an environment where, according to the ICRC, shrapnel and gunshot wounds are among the most common surgical cases, reliable on-site imaging is essential — transfers to external facilities are often impossible or carry significant risks.
